Program Information

The Nestlé Nutrition Institute Clinical Nutrition Fellowship for Physicians is a non-CME medical education program developed for physicians who are medical or surgical subspecialty fellows and/or attendings and who are/were enrolled in an ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship, currently licensed or practicing in the United States. This exclusive program is characterized by one-on-one mentoring, live clinical rotations, and advanced nutrition training. With the specialized education provided through the Fellowship Program, participants have the opportunity to advance both their clinical and professional development.

Mission

The mission of the Nestlé Nutrition Institute Clinical Nutrition Fellowship for Physicians is to foster knowledge of and experience with clinical nutrition in the primary care of the acute and chronically ill patient. Through dedicated mentorship and education, participants are trained to become future leaders in specialized medical nutrition therapy. In this role, physicians will advance nutrition practice and influence the development of other healthcare practitioners, with the end goal of improving patient outcomes across clinical settings.

Program Overview

The Nestlé Nutrition Institute Clinical Nutrition Fellowship Program for Physicians is designed to provide a learning experience like no other. The Fellowship is based on the following unique experiences:

  • Clinical Training: Participants will develop specialized nutrition skills and knowledge through combined in-person clinical rotations and virtual didactic sessions with program faculty. This one-on-one mentoring opportunity provides intense immersion into the science and practice of specialized nutrition support. Live two-week rotations will take place at the University of Louisville from November 3-14, 2025, and in Rochester, MN from September 29-October 10, 2025. Participation in the ASPEN Nutrition Practice and Science Conference will take place in the spring of 2026.
  • Publication: Working with their faculty mentors during their clinical training, participants will select a primary nutrition topic that will be developed into a clinical review paper and submitted to a journal for publication.
  • Professional Association: Participants who complete their rotations and submit a clinical review paper for publication are sponsored to attend the next scheduled A.S.P.E.N. Nutrition and Practice Conference, where they will provide a short nutrition lecture during a Nestle Nutrition Institute sponsored Symposium, highlighting a topic of their interest and research during the Fellowship program.
