Presented by
Course Description
Sarcopenia affects up to 40% of adults in the US. Both diabetes and obesity may increase the risk of sarcopenia especially during rapid weight loss when very low-calorie diets, GLP-1 RA therapy or bariatric surgery are part of the treatment plan. This program will review the evidence around fat mass and fat-free mass loss and describe management strategies to support adults at risk for sarcopenia.
Course Objectives
1. Identify risk factors for the development of sarcopenia in adults with diabetes and obesity.
2. Describe the impact of rapid weight loss on lean body mass in adults following current treatment approaches, including diet and exercise, GLP-1 RA therapy and bariatric surgery.
